Importance of Snana(bath) In Ayurveda
Ayurveda is an ancient health care tradition that has been practicing in
India for more than 5000 years. The goal of Ayurveda is to maintain
health through prevention and cure of the diseases.Ayurveda emphasis some rules and regime which every individual has to
follow for healthy and long life. These daily prectices are known as
Dinacharya. Dinacharya means daily routines, the ideal lifestyle
explained in ayurvedic samhitas.It starts with waking up early i.e on
Brahma muhurta, brushing teeth (dantadhawan), nasya, kawala, gandush
(oral hygiene), abhyang, snana (bath), etc.
Each and every practice is explained in detail in Ayurveda.Cleanliness is the utmost important thing for maintenance of health. For this Ayurveda has mentioned snana (bath) as ‘Ayushyam’ means it gives you long healthy life.
Some Acharyas prescribed 2 baths daily. Importance of snana is also mentioned in Yoga Shastra under the chapter of Niyama. Bathing in hot springs gradually increases the body temperature and thus kills harmful germs and viruses.
Acharya Charak has mentioned that snan is the best way to remove fatigue, it improves body metabolism and thus digestion. it brings strength in the body and enhances ‘ojas’ means immune power of the person.
